World Sustainable Agriculture Day, September 9th
Spain is an agricultural country with 33% of its territory dedicated to arable land, making it the second European country in terms of surface area.
In organic agriculture, Spain is at the top of the European ranking and in fourth place worldwide, with more than 2 million hectares dedicated to this type of crop. “In recent years, Spanish farmers have made a significant commitment to develop a more sustainable agriculture, reducing environmental impact and using localized irrigation”. In this sense, “Murcia, and the Campo de Cartagena, are precisely at the forefront, with 98% of localized irrigation,” says the president of Fundación Ingenio, which brings together more than 10,000 farmers and 45 companies in the Campo de Cartagena, on the world day of sustainable agriculture.
